Annette Hancks
I wish you could see their faces, the faces of the patients who receive stuffed animals (stuffies) from Annette Hancks at the University of Kansas Hospital. No matter how old they are, no matter what gender, no matter what their illness, each person who receives one is touched.
I wish Annette could see their faces. She doesn't see their faces because she only provides them. She doesn't deliver them like I do. All she does is spend hours of her time going to garage sales, finding them, buying them, washing them, refurbishing them so they look like new, and delivering them to the medical center.
Jennie Malewski, chaplain at the hospital, chooses the patients who receive one. She has the unique talent of perceiving who needs the pick-me-up the stuffies provide.
Both Annette and Jennie are unlauded for this quiet work. They go about their business of bringing cheer to hospital patients on their own volition. I think someone needs to know what they do as they unassumingly add cheer to hospital rooms.
